Creativity Roundup – Sept/Oct

General, Updates

Hello there!

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted anything on here. Life in Oregon has, for the time, settled as the imminent threat from the wildfires has passed. I’ve been able to get back home (and I’m very grateful to still have a home to go back to) and have been hard at work this month on all sorts of projects. Everything from book writing to dice making and digital art has been in the works these past few weeks.

DIGITAL ART AND ART COMMISSIONS

I have been doing so, so much art lately and have seen a lot of improvement over the past few months. I’ve been doing a lot of D&D related art, some character commissions for fellow D&D players, as well as the Halloween inspired art that is pretty much mandatory to do in October 😀

I also did an art trade with dullcat.art over on Instagram which was a lot of fun. We ended up drawing each others D&D characters. Out of the three choices, I chose to draw their paladin, Khora!

He is doing some really great D&D related art for inktober, so be sure to head on over and give his profile some love!

As always, you can find all my latest work and process images over on Instagram!

For art commissions, you can find information here!

I was also recently commissioned to come up with some title art for a Vampire: The Masquerade game ran by KLC Game Master. I am so happy with how these turned out and love that we agreed on doing a separate color scheme for each game setting.

You can check out these campaigns over on Youtube!

DICE MAKING

Y’all. Dice making is…not easy. At all. I mean, I’m invested now. I have tools. I have made my own molds. I have my own master dice, but with that said… getting started has been just…woah dang.

I think I’ve finally gotten to a good spot though. I have working, functional molds by which to make dice and will be pulling a fresh new set with (hopefully) minimal problems out of my pressure pot tomorrow.

Despite the difficulties of just getting started into the foray of dice making, the whole process really just clicks with me on a lot of levels. It’s a nice creative project that requires a level of attention to details and focus that I really enjoy. And I get really awesome, glimmering, glitter-filled click clack math rocks out of the process and I love it. (Everyone is getting dice for Christmas, whether they play D&D or not!)

Now that I have a functional working process, I’ll probably be posting a lot more about it. For now, here are some pictures of the various molds I’ve made, a failed set of test dice, as well as a test D6 that ended up with my dogs hair in it cause he has to be involved in everything.

I ordered my master dice from RevelBrokerDice on Etsy and I LOVE them. They polished up so, so nicely!

That wraps it up for today! Have a great week and check back soon for more creative shenanigans!

The Thorn of Emerill – OUT NOW!

General

Hey everyone! My new novella, The Thorn of Emerill, is officially out today!

Thank you to everyone that preordered! It should be on your Kindle and ready to read.

You can pick up The Thorn of Emerill for $0.99 over on Amazon to read on your Kindle or on your phone or tablet using the Kindle App. You can also read it for free if you currently have Kindle Unlimited!

Traveling with her friend by day and luring Templars out of their vows and their coin by night, Yana has finally managed to find a small measure of peace after escaping a dark and dangerous past. But peace is a fragile thing, and when Garrick Tribane, a senior member of the Templars of Emerithil, arrests them as suspects in the disappearances of the very men she’s taken to bed, Yana finds herself wrapped up in a deadly mystery that she seems to be at the heart of. As Garrick forces them to return to the city of Emerill, Yana must face the past she thought she’d left behind, only this time it could very well endanger them all.

Oregon Wildfires

General

As of yesterday, my family was evacuated from our home. We’re safe, we have shelter, but we’re still waiting to see which way the winds blow, if it’ll drive the fire towards our home, and if anything of our town will still be standing when this is all said and done.

Much of my hometown – the places I grew up, the businesses I knew and loved, the parks where I played, the homes of friends where I spent many nights and days – is gone, nothing left but rubble and ash. The sheer impact these fires have had already has been overwhelming, and the destruction is not over yet. I know far too many people with nothing left, that have lost their homes and businesses and way of life. We have a very long road ahead of us to recover and the impact these fires have had on all of us will be felt for years to come.

Things are going to be a little quiet around here while I wait for things to settle and see if there will be a home to go back to.

Below is a link to our local credit union. They are currently collecting donations to help with the relief efforts here in the Rogue Valley and will be matching all donations up to $50,000.

There are also thousands of families with GoFundMe pages needing help right now to get back on their feet. Anything you can spare can go a long way in helping bring some sense of normality back to their lives while they recover from this.

To everyone in Oregon: Stay safe. My heart goes out to all of you suffering through this right now.

We’ll get through this.

Welcome to Rouhier Creates!

General, Updates

After spending the last few years trying to juggle different sites for my creative pursuits, I finally decided to just merge everything under one easy to remember umbrella, and thus, Rouhier Creates was…err…created.

As this is the first blog post going up here on the site, I thought I’d explain a little about who I am, what I do, and what I create around here. First and foremost, my name is Kaitlyn – artist, author, and serial hobbyist. I’m a 29-year-old currently residing in the fire prone mountains of Southern Oregon. I love reading, art, music, Critical Role (I’m almost caught up – just finished episode 67), and video games. After some steadily worsening health woes started having a heavy impact on my life, I decided to turn my focus back on the things that I am truly passionate about.

One of those passions is writing. I’m a fantasy author and have written a young adult trilogy called the Allseer Trilogy. I’m continuing work on an adult fantasy novel called Of Blood and Briar that I hope to have out next year and I’m also in the final stages of editing a novella called The Thorn of Emerill which I hope to release later this month. If you’d like to check out my YA trilogy, you can find it on Amazon. It is available in paperback and for Kindle! You can also find me on Goodreads!

Another thing you’ll see often around here is my digital art. Art has always been a joy for me and is something I am constantly striving to get better at. I’m self-taught and, through many trials and a fair share of errors, have finally reached a point where I’m able to start pushing my skill level and creating more complicated drawings and paintings. My favorite thing to draw/paint is characters, either original or characters from my favorites shows and video games. I’m mildly obsessed with drawing horns, freckles, braids, and glow effects. I recently opened up commissions, so if you’ve been wanting to have a d&d character or an OC drawn, I’d love to help!

I plan to add a lot more to the site and will be posting process images, writing and art resources, tutorials, d&d dice, and more so check back often to see what is new!

Thank you for stopping by!
